Save the Date August 03 – 13

Garmin Round Denmark Race is set to a new date as one of the toughest sailing challenges in Northern Europe will start in the beginning August.

Garmin Round Denmark Race 2023 will take place in August. After thorough considerations and lots of talks it has been decided to move Garmin Round Denmark Race from the highly “event congested” June/July period to last month of summer, August.

– The event calendar is fully packed during the spring and in the early summer period so after listening to the sailors and to some of the other event organizers we decided to move GRDR to the last summer month, says Jon Kock Hansen from Sailing Aarhus.

To be more precise the move means that participants on the offshore course start from Esbjerg on Thursday 3rd. of August. Whereas the participants on the inshore course will start from Aarhus on Saturday 5th. The cut off time will be Sunday 13th.

– We are really excited about the new event period. Clearly the sailing event calendar is much more open in August. We do still have the benefit for the bright summer nights when the race starts. Further the moon will be 96% full on Thursday 3rd, says Morten Brandt from Shorthand ECM.

He also explains that the participants will experience the transition from the bright summer nights to the pitch-dark nights of Autumn. That happens as the bright night period in Denmark runs from May 5th to August 8th. When the race ends the 96% fullmoon from Thursday 3rd is reduces to close to new moon as there is on 6% moon left on Sunday 13th.

Title sponsor technology gigant Garmin Danmark is also please about the new dates and see them as an opportunity for more sailors to explore Danish, Swedish and German waters an shorelines:

– We are excited to be part of Garmin Round Denmark Race again this year, and we welcome the new dates in August as we hope this will open up for even more possible participants. Denmark is a beautiful country and everyone deserves to experience our gorgeous coasts. And what better way to do that than by boat?, says Christine Jaeger from Garmin Denmark.
