Offshore sailing in an Northern European context
The Round Denmark Race will set the agenda
Sailing Aarhus, Aarhus International Sailing Center, Scandinavian Single Hand Sailing Association and Morten Brandt's event company Shorthand ECM enter into a collaboration on a completely new version of the sailing event Denmark Round Race for both solo, 2Star and fully crewed.
The city of sails in Scandinavia, Aarhus, will be the venue from 2021 with a brand new version of the sailing event Round Denmark Race formally known as Danmark Rundt Singlehand. The extreme adventure sail race will start and finish in Aarhus, and it can be followed on social media and via tracking.
Apart from the bragging rights the following is included in the entry fee; free berth one day before and after the event, participant t-shirt, post regatta lunch for each crew member with option to buy additional lunch tickets for family/friends, prize giving ceremony, medals for 1, 2, 3 in each category, 24/7 safety surveillance of all boats during the race, timed race results, special awards, Line honnour award, Finisher Certificate and experience you’ll never forget.
Round Denmark Race has its roots in the Danish singlehanded sailing movement brought to live by Morten Brandt when he created Silverrudder Challenge in 2012.
In 2015 the event inspired the sailor and fisherman Erik Venøbo to take it to the next level and make a solo voyage round Denmark on the inside. His efforts attracted Jan Møller who is the fastest Dane on the non-stop solo circumnavigation of the planet. In 2016 they formed the association Skandinavisk Singlehandsejler Forening.
The mission of the association is a.m.o. to increase the knowledge, safety and acceptance of single- and shorthanded sailing in Northern Europe. In 2016 and 2019 they conceived and managed a multi stage singlehanded only version of Danmark Rundt.
In 2020 they decided to withdraw from event management and handed over the event to Morten Brandt and his company Shorthand ECM. He rewrote the concept and renamed it to Round Denmark Race inshore & offshore and joined forces with Sailing Aarhus and the Aarhus International Sailing Center.
